Catholic Formation and Leadership Conference to take transition, in 2014, to return bigger and better in 2015

The Catholic Formation and Leadership Conference will return to the archdiocesan schedule in 2015 with a new name, a new look and new constituencies.
This year’s event, which had been set for Oct. 17-18 at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center downtown, has been postponed. The new, bigger archdiocesan assembly will take place on the campus of St. Mary’s University on Saturday, Nov. 7, 2015, with the theme, “Encountering Christ.”
In addition to keynote addresses and workshops, the day will also be highlighted by celebration of the Eucharist in Bill Greehey Arena. Afterwards, a concert appealing especially to youth and young adults will be held.
Archbishop Gustavo García-Siller, MSpS, envisions an expanded convocation featuring relevant tracks of interest for priests, women and men religious, catechists, school teachers, youth ministers, young adults, college students, vocation promoters, seminarians, men and women in religious formation, members of pastoral and finance councils, liturgical ministers and the faithful.
St. Mary’s University President Thomas Mengler has expressed his excitement at being part of this new opportunity for partnership and ministry for the local church, and the St. John’s Illuminated Bible housed at the university will be incorporated into presentations.
Meanwhile, as details are being ironed out for the 2015 event, a good alternative opportunity for some to consider is possibly participating in the National Conference on Catholic Youth Ministry (NCCYM), which will be held in the Alamo City, Dec. 4-6. More information is available at http://www.nccym.info/.
Other alternatives are being determined for this fall for groups that regularly participate in the CFLC annually, such as Catholic school teachers, archdiocesan Pastoral Center staff, members of parish Pastoral Councils, etc.
A new leadership conference team is meeting every two weeks and more information will be available soon. Please mark your calendars for Nov. 7, 2015, for the first annual archdiocesan assembly.
